Fear of Fire on the Mountain

Progression of events regarding secondary emergency access

      1. Fire Captain Rich Riolo of the Nevada Division of Forestry specifies requirements for secondary emergency access.

      2. A letter from the homeowners group states that they met with developers and came to agreement on conditions for the secondary access. This includes the 12-foot wide path and three 20-foot wide pullouts (turnouts or turnarounds).

      3. Mr. Riolo approves this.

      4. Representatives of Neighbors for Responsible Planning talk to the fire chief. He has the fire marshall send a letter to the developers stating they need to meet code.

      5. Developer's consultant Jeff Codega talks to the fire department reviewer and convinces him to convince the fire marshall that they already had an agreement.

      6. Mr. Codega writes a letter saying so on his letterhead and the fire marshall stamps his approval on it.

      7. We write to the fire chief that explains the failures of Codega's response.

      8. F
ire chief cancels meeting with us.
