decry misleading "astroturf" petition
being circulated by paid operatives
|
The
document entitled "HUNTER CREEK DEVELOPMENT
& TRAILHEAD PETITION" is being circulated in favor
of the Hunter Creek project and trailhead. The representation and/or
the petition was misleading and lacked information that led Nevadans
to believe that signature means support of a trails project.
It
leads readers to believe that the Hunter Creek development (as opposed
to Hunter Creek
Development) is a six-acre trailhead.
No mention is made of an upscale 53-home gated community or a one
million-gallon water tank next to the Mt. Rose Wilderness.
The following information is missing,
misleading, or unclear on the petition and in conversations with
the signature collectors:
- Lack
of mention of a sub-division and its relationship to the
trailhead.
- Knowing
that the petition is sponsored by the developers of the
Hunter Creek Development.
- Knowing
that signature indicates support of a 107-acre gated (with
public access) sub-division in the Hunter Creek watershed.
- Knowing
that the petition is solicited by a paid worker representing
the developer of the sub-division.
- Being
misled by the petitioner that he/she was not working on
behalf of developers.
- Knowing
that Commissioner Jim Galloway is not related to the
petition as the accompanying flyer
and map implied.

HUNTER CREEK DEVELOPMENT & TRAILHEAD PETITION
TO:
WASHOE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OFFICE
We, the undersigned residents of Washoe County, NV, are
in favor of the Hunter Creek project and trailhead because
it will ensure that we have permanent and guaranteed public
access to Steamboat Ditch west of Plateau Road, the upper
Hunter Creek area, and the Toiyabe National Forest. As homeowners
threaten to block access to the Steamboat Ditch as evidenced
by the sign at Woodchuck and Steamboat Ditch, we are in
favor of Washoe County establishing a trailhead in the vicinity
of Steamboat Ditch and Woodchuck.
Sincerely,
The Undersigned
